" Working For The Community"

Who are we?

Okehampton Baptist Church is a group of people committed to Jesus and each other. Some have been in Okehampton since they can remember and others are from further away. We are from a variety of backgrounds and are all ages – from 1 to 90!
What draws us together is an experience of the love of God and a desire to know him better. We know God makes a difference! Okehampton Baptist Church has been in the town for well over 100 years – We are established neighbours! Isn’t it time you got to know us better?
The best way to find out about us is to meet us! We gather together on Sundays at 11am and would love to see you.

We extend a warm welcome ....

We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, filthy rich, dirt poor.
To those who are pregnant, skinny as a rake or could afford to lose a few pounds.
We welcome you if you can sing like Pavarotti or can't carry a note !
You're welcome here if you are `just browsing' just woke up or just got out of prison.
We don't care if you're more Christian than the Archbishop of Canterbury, or haven't been in a church since little Jack's Christening.
We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but have not grown up yet , and to teenagers who are growing up too fast.
We welcome children, keep-fit mums, football dads, tree huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters.
We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you're having problems, or just down in the dumps.
If you blew all your money on the horses , you're welcome here.
We offer a welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don't work, can't spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church.
We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both.
We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or wound up here by mistake.
We welcome tourists, seekers, and doubters, broken hearts .....and you !

Thank you for visiting our website! We hope it's useful for you.

Bulgaria Trip - October 2018

Two teams visited the children at Krivnya Orphanage & School for children with special needs: A building team and an activities team.
The building team successfully removed a crumbling ceiling and replaced it with a new one. The room was previously shut off due to falling debris but now it can be reopened. It was a big task as the ceiling is 16m x 8m and nearly 6m high.

The activities team ran a week of fun and games for the children focusing on the 7 days of creation. Each day a poster was created culminating in a wonderful collage of their work covering the whole of creation which has been hung in the orphanage as a reminder of what the children learned. Above all we hope that both teams achieved their main aim of showing the love of Jesus through our actions.

Now we are looking forward to next years' trip.....................
